Are Lufthansa seat reservations required?
First time flyer, flying with Lufthansa, and noticed there are seat reservation options after booking my tickets, but do I have to actually reserve a seat to have a seat on the flight? Or will they randomly asign me a seat based on what's available? I've tried contacting them but never heard back, my flight is next week and just wanna make sure I'm good to go!
If you don't reserve a seat they will assign you one when you check in. You have to pay to choose your seat early.
You should reserve a seat. If you wait for them to assign you one, you'll and up in a middle seat
It's a money making exercise, whereby if you want a preferred seat you should pay for a seat reservation, without if you get allocated a seat on checkin, you might be lucky and get a seat online early in the 24 hour checkin window.
It depends on the fare type you purchased. Some fares do not allow you to select a seat and you will be issued one randomly when you check-in. Some fare types allow you to select a seat when you check-in, some allow you to select the seat before you check-in.
If you are allowed to select a seat and do not the airline will just randomly assign you a seat. Just remember in this case the longer you wait to select your seat if possible the more of a chance you will have a less desirable seat.
If you are unsure then you should go onto their site and enter in your information to manage your flight, If you are allowed to select your seat there will be an option when reviewing your flight details.

And they'll tell you to upgrade your ticket at a higher price just so you can have extra benefits such as Overhead bin access, Choose your seat and Ticket changes for a two hour flight. This is highway robbery.
