New Ulaanbaatar Airport is 49 minutes away from downtown Ulaanbaatar. How is that going to work?

At first I was wondering why they were building a new airport when they already had a perfectly good one but then I found out that expansion at the current airport (Chinggis Khaan International Airport) is impossible because of the mountains that surround it. So that makes sense but how is Ulaanbaatar going to manage having it's main international airport being a 49 minute drive (courtesy of Google Maps) from it's downtown area? How can a city's airport be so far away from the city?

Lots of adults play with toys. Guy spend a lot of time on videogames. I know women who collect dolls and make dresses for them. Call it a hobby, rather than playing and it's fine.

Many large cities have their major airports that far away from downtown. Many of them build roads and public transportation to the airport.

It will work by putting in a high speed rail link.

Originally, when they envisioned the airport they planned for people to travel to the airport on the horseback, but now there's this newfangled thing called a bus. People get on this bus at the airport and it takes them into the city. The bus even travels on a set schedule that people who want to travel on the bus (they are called passengers) will know when the bus arrives and departs.

You make a 49 MINUTE trip (doubtful the time is accurate) seem like weeks and weeks.

Time to current Airport is about 35 minutes according to Google.

Having a larger Airport terminal and more flight options available most will consider the extra TEN to Fifteen minutes a minor thing of your travel day.

Many cities have Airports that are further than that from City Centre and they have been doing well for decades.

  • Connected flights, go to the airport that is 3 hours away or go to the airpot where it connects that is 50 mins away? I'm booking a flight that is 3 hours away from me, but it is a connected flight. The connected flight is only 50 minutes away from my house, could i just go to the airport when my connected flight lands and wait there?
  • How does an international layover at ATL airport work? This is my first time having a layover on my way back from an international vacation. We're flying Aruba to ATL with a 1 hour 14 minute layover then ATL to MSP. How does this process work? We go through customs but will we have to recheck bags or go through security again?
