How long do airline pilots stay in one place?

How long do airline pilots get to stay in one place? And are there laws stating that if a pilot flys over X hours they have to not fly again for Y amount of time?

For commercial airlines, there are limits a pilot can fly in 24 hours, in a week, and a month. So, pilots with seniority set up efficient flight schedules to get their "in air" time in quickly so they can relax the rest of the month. Low seniority pilots get stuck in odd places sometimes for days at a time before they can "get back into the air" and keep accumulating hours.

Not sure

X = 8
Y = 10
