Is the pay as a pilot in a regional airline good enough for a single person to live normally?
If you are single, would it be easier to get through the low pay?
If you like living in a trailer and eating Top Ramen Noodles.
Pilots don't live "normally".
It's fine if "normally" means you are reasonable and can budget your money. I'd say $50K-$60K starting salary for a single person with no kids is pretty decent. Likely you're going to be paying back on some college and flight loans, so that might take another $7K-$8K a year out of your pocket until they are repaid. There are families that get by on less income than that. For a single "normal" person, 50-60K isn't great, but it's above mean household income in the US anyway.
- Which airline companies pay their future flight attendants during their training, and which airline companies are unionized? I also wanted to know which airline companies pay their future flight attendants during their training time, as well as which ones pay for their housing whether it be at a hotel somewhere or not. And which airline companies pay their flight attendants the best and treat their employees the best?
- Why do some people who book Frontier wait till they get to the airport to pay for checkin luggage when it's more than when you pay online? Like you have a small fee online. If you wait till you're at the airport it's a bigger fee. Are these people irrational?
- Would you believe that in the Southern Philippines, where I live? Air travel was much more economically affordable to people in the 1960's and 70's than it is today… My father used to fly way more frequently back in those years… Today, my father usually travel by boats from island to island because airplane ticket is getting so expensive nowadays than it is 40 to 50 yrs ago.
- Is becoming a regional airline pilot one of the few great jobs that you can have without a college degree? Many regional airlines don't require college degrees. Is becoming an E-170 or CRJ700 captain much better than working as a bus driver or a carpenter? You think sleeping at Motel 6s or Motel 8s and drinking that free coffee is bad? It would be a very nice treat for bus drivers or people with other jobs that they could find with no degree. I would be honored to sleep at Motel 6 or Motel 8 for free. At least it is much better than hostel or Airbnb.
