If i take a connecting flight, do i have to check in my luggage twice?
I've never flown before so I don't know much about flying, if I take a connecting flight, do I have to pick up my luggage and check it in again when I arrive at the connecting airport? Or does it go directly to my final destination? (sorry if this question seems dumb)
No you do not. The airline will transfer your bag from one plane to the other on your behalf. Of course sometimes they screw this up and your luggage gets its own mystery vacation while you o the nearest Target to buy panties.
Checking a bag often costs extra these days. Many travelers choose to travel with only a carry-on bag. It's cheaper and solves the "lost luggage" problem.
When you check in they will tell you where your luggage is checked thru to. Unless you are changing airlines and they do not cooperate or you are going through a foreign airport, they should be check to your final destination.
USUALLY, if you have a two leg flight to your destination, your luggage is CHECKED THROUGH to the final destination. The airline will handle the transfer at the first stop, and all you need to do is change planes and relax.
It depends on several unknown facts:
- do you fly with the same airline or with partner airlines that have "check-through" agreements
- do you fly domestic or international to a country that requires customs clearance at the first arrival airport (like the US)
Only check once.
If you booked your flights together on the same itinerary, then your bags will be checked onto your final destination. I imagine this is probably the case for you.
If you booked 2 completely separate tickets, then you will have to pick up and recheck your bags.
More info needed, such as if you're going from Country A to Country B and then connecting flight takes you to another city
in Country B or to Country C, you're probably better off checking with your airline for the first part of your journey to be sure
NOT A DUMB QUESTION.
Usually you do not need to claim your luggage and recheck it.
You ASK when you check in if you need to do anything at your connection.
IT DOES MATTER if you are using the same Airlines. Crossing a Border and other stuff if you MIGHT need to claim your luggage.
The only accurate answer is MAYBE.
Luggage is always tagged to the final destination
Usually you check your luggage to the destination. However if the second flight is domestic you have to clear customs on arrival and recheck your bags.
You do not give your routing.

- Flying from the UK with Easyjet - will I need to visit the check-in desk if I already have printed off boarding passes & only hand luggage? I'm flying abroad later in March (from Manchester), just for 3 days, so I only need to pack a small carry on/hand luggage. We've been sent our boarding passes already and we can check in from tomorrow (28th), but I've never been through the airport without calling at the check-in desk first. What do I do? Go straight to security? I'm not sure. Any help and directions would be ideal!
