Need help about relocating pet from Dubai to Indonesia?
So my family and I have stayed in Dubai for 3 years and we're going back to our home country in January 2, but we're also bringing our 2 y/o and 8 months male cat with us. We're flying with Emirates Airline. This is the first time my family and I are flying with a pet so we have NO IDEA how EVERYTHING will go, since, again, we don't have any experience on flying with a pet before.
like we don't know the cargo process, what documents are necessary to bring, the type of vaccinations, permits, how to even get the permits, and do I buy the ticket and reserve the cargo at the same time? Like how does it actually work? And what are the necessary steps we should do?
so for anyone out there that knows on what to do, what to bring, and all the process we should do, please Please could you help provide all the information that's necessary. Your help will be so much appreciated! Seriously.
Depending on your ticket class you may be able to bring him on board. Generally though, you're not allowed animals on planes for other passenger safety such as; people allergic to that animal, scared of that animal or fear that animal could hurt someone else on board.
They will probably suggest putting him in a carrier somewhere else inside the plane
Of course you don't know Ask the company that's handling your move. They will know ALL the rules and regulations.
If you are handling the move yourself, contact Emirates right away and explain the situation. You will have to book a place for your cat, and on the larger international airlines like Emirates, they have an area in the hold that is temperature controlled specifically for animals to travel.
Whatever Emirates or the removals company tells you to do, do it - to the letter. They will advise you about the type and dimensions of the pet carrier: get one. DON'T think, 'Oh, Fifi has travelled before in our existing carrier'.
Get all the paperwork in order NOW. You really, really don't want to be running round town with a stressed cat on the day you leave trying to get a document stamped.
Be sure you have a safe place for the cat to be in while you're packing. He will be anxious and fretful and may try to escape. Make certain he can't. Likewise when you arrive in Indonesia: keep him indoors for a few days. Actually I wouldn't let him out at all… But that's up to you.
Combine what I've said with Rona's always sane and practical advice, then contact the professionals. Pets travel frequently these days, and official advice is freely available. I flew my cats from Thailand to Scotland, and even with the removals company handling it all, it was hideously stressful for all concerned, so be SURE you follow all the official stuff to the very last dot.
Best of luck to you and the cat.
PS You might be thinking of just booking your flight on the Internet. DON'T. Go to the Emirates office and go through all of this with a real person.
