I'm planning on buying a ticket to visit my friend in Indianapolis from Dulles International Airport but I don't know what I need! - 1

Added (1). So, I'm in college and I've been saving money to visit my friend in Indianaplis. Only thing is I don't know anything about going on an airplane. My passport expired 4 years ago so will my drivers license be sufficient? How early should I show up to the airport? What should I expect? I know everyone is thinking I should figure everything out on my own, but by asking on here this is me finding out "on my own."

Currently, only United Express has non-stop service from Dulles to Indianapolis. You can use your drivers license for domestic travel. Should be at the airport a least 2 hours before take-off. Check the website below for what you can and can't bring on an aircraft.

Money

Well, you need to buy a round trip ticket as soon as you're 100% sure on your dates.
almost all tickets are non-refundable and if you need to change the departure or return date, you will pay like a $200 change fee PLUS the difference in airfare.
you only need your state ID
depending on the airline, you may have to pay for your checked bag and even the carry on bag so be sure you know about any additional fees you might be subject to. (spirit, frontier and allegiant are the worst for fees)
you need to get to the airport about 2 hours before departure unless the weather is bad, make sure your flight is not delayed and plan on extra time to get to the airport.
once at the airport, you pretty much just follow the crowds. Check in at your airline desk, go through security and then to the gate.
if you have any questions, just ask any airport employee. They can point you in the right direction.
