Do you know why some stores at airport ask for boarding pass?
Do you know why some stores at airport ask for boarding pass when buying stuff even chocolates, candies or foods? That happened to me when I was in Amsterdam airport.
Because locals would have to pay duty, whereas international travellers can buy things duty free.
You were in duty free shops. You can purchase items tax free if you have an international boarding pass. You don't get charged taxes because when you get to the country you are travelling to they may or may not charge you a duty fee for importing the item(s) (this all depends on how much the item(s) cost you, each country has its own limits as to the value of goods you can bring in, anything over that limit will be charged a duty fee). Its very important to declare it on your customs card. If you get caught with it and didn't declare it, you will lose the item(s), face fines and possibly be denied entry into the country
NOT happening here legally maybe in your country
Even in stores that are not duty free, they may be able to get away without paying dales tax depending on your destination.
At duty free stores, you must be able to show that you are traveling internationally in order to purchase your items tax-free.
Duty free shops traditionally only sell to passengers flying abroad as they don't tax the products since you'll likely be paying tax upon arrival. However, nowadays, many duty free shops will sell to anyone but if you're not traveling internationally, you'll have to pay taxes. That's why they need to see your boarding pass. Most duty free shops transfer your purchases directly to the plane so you can't use the product or give it to someone at the airport which would be illegal as they would get a tax free item. People used to do that in the old days.
Also note that duty free does not mean airport markup free. Some people have the misconception that duty free shops are cheaper than a traditional store but this is not true. Yes, you save the tax but you're still at the airport so they're gonna charge as much as they can get.
Because they can reclaim the tax on the item you bought. But they don't pass on the reduction to you or reflect the refund in their prices. So it's just gravy for them. So just say "sorry, I don't have it with me".
Bottom line is that it's for THEIR benefit, not your's.
Sales tax.
They ask so they can Verify some information for Tax purposes
Because with boarding pass you get "duty free".

- How do I get a boarding pass when I'm connecting on another airline? I'm flying from Atlanta to New York-LaGuardia, and then to Syracuse, NY on the 26th. I'm flying on Frontier Airlines up to LGA, and then Delta to SYR. I know that if I was flying on the same airline for both flights that I could just print both my boarding passes at ATL, but since I'm switching airlines, how do I get my second one to fly to Syracuse? Do I have to get in line again at the ticket counter at LGA, or can I just have one printed off at the Delta gate?
