Is it ok to spend the night at London Luton Airport?
I'm flying in for a university interview to the UK this December and have not yet bought a plane ticket back to my home country. Ideally I would like to fly back to my home country on the same day as my interview finishes but that's not possible (don't wanna risk missing my flight). I now have two flight options,
one in the very early morning (6AM) of the day after the interview and
another in the evening of the day after the interview.
After my interview I plan on going to London or just staying where my interview took place. If I take option two (evening of the following day) then I will obviously have to book a hostel room for one day in London which will increase my finances even more (flight 2 is more expensive).
If I take option one I HOPE to avoid having to book a room and just spend my whole day in London and in the evening going to Luton airport to spend the night there. This plan is much cheaper so I'm leaning more towards it but I'm having some doubts about it:
is it safe to ride buses/trains in London at late hours (I plan on going from London to Luton at around 23:00 or something)?
is it immature of me not to book accommodation and to just expect to spend the night at the airport?
You can spend the night at the airport, but you'll find it difficult to sleep there due to lack of suitable seating, also many homeless people try and stay at the airport during the night, especially in the winter. The last train from St Pancras is around midnight.
The big question is - what will you do in London all day and evening? You can't just wander around all that time, not only will you be tired but it will be cold. Cafes, pubs, restaurants won't be cheap if you are looking to save money.

No it is NOT. You'll probably get moved on by the police. The airport is NOT a hotel.
No it's not! You could get asked to move! They're cheap hotels around Luton - search online!
The trains are safe late at night. Providing you have a valid airline ticket you may sit in Luton Airport all night
- Which Airport has the quickest and the cheapest public transport systems to Birmingham? Luton Airport or Stansted Airport? I will be visiting Birmingham, but I want to know which of these airports, Luton or Stansted has the cheapest and quickest transport systems to Birmingham. Could you please explain the cheapest and the quickest options available, Are there any bus or coach options that go from these airports direct to Birmigham, or do all transport services go to London first?
- Do you prefer night flights or day flights? I prefer night flights. The view of all the city lights and cars passing by below is so relaxing and I love the way airports are all lit up at night.
- I'm going to London and then Paris. So I was wondering can I just do the VAT refund when I just arrive at the Paris airport (CDG)? B/c I know I'm just going to spent the most of in London and Paris its just going to be food/ cheap souvenirs. Also, for the reason that I did not account for how much time the VAT refund line may take and I already booked when my hotel car will pick me up to depart back home. Including, all the websites I checked they keep telling me that I should go do my VAT refund before I leave Europe. Therefore, it would to appreciated if I got an answer.
- Transfer time Luton Airport to LHR? Will I be able to travel from Luton Airport to London Heathrow in time? Flight arrives Luton 16.05 Flight leaves LHR 20.35. Is it a good plan to book these flights and be able to make the transfer?
