How was your trip to Scotland?

Me and my girlfriend are considering taking a trip to Scotland in March. We re just looking for some opinions/tips from people that have gone before. Obviously we want to do it as cost effectively as possible. What airline did you fly? Where did you stay? Did you do a lot of sightseeing? Is it possible to take a train to nearby cities/countries rather quickly and cheaply? How s the food? Was the trip expensive? Any help is appreciated! This will be our first trip to Europe.

Hhh

"Is it possible to take a TRAIN to nearby cities/COUNTRIES?" Do you even KNOW where Scotland actually IS?

In Scotland - where?
Are you intending on visiting Edinburgh? Glasgow? The Outer Hebrides?

Think about what you actually want to do / see, when you're going, and how long for.

You can easily travel south to the rest of the UK by train or plane, and from Edinburgh to the rest of Europe by plane too.

In March, the weather in northern parts of Scotland is still likely to be bad and I'd advise you to plan for late April/early May. As for flights, there are few direct international flights in to scotish cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow are well served domestically from London and Manchester airports. There are many train services connecting the major uk cities. Many flights to European cities, Ireland etc.

You need to read up and decide where you are going, you can't just say a country and not know what you intend to do when there.

You can take the train to England and Wales, and from London the train to pretty much anywhere in mainland Europe. You'd need to take the ferry or fly to Ireland.

Perhaps, this short introductory guide to Scotland may help you start to fix your project:

By the way, one of the most famous international events in Scotland, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, will take place from August 3 to 25, 2018. Edinburgh Festival Fringe is also held in August.

Highland games are also popular events in Scotland. They are held in spring and summer in various places. The largest and most spectacular Highland games take place in August in Dunoon (Argyllshire). See http://www.shga.co.uk/events.php

Buy a guide book, seriously. Also you can't get a direct train to any country outside the UK from Scotland.
