Traveling with a 1 year old baby on Air Asia A330. Any suggestions?

Is my first time traveling with a baby and traveling with this low budget airline. I'm flying to Japan so is about 9 hrs direct flight. Should I ask for a bassinet? Does babies need ear protection? Going with my husband and inlow.

Yeah they need ear protection 😂😂😀

The planes are pressurized so the baby should not have pain in the ears. Will they give you a bassinet to use for the baby? Then ask them for one.

I think you are wise to consider ear protection, noise cancelling will aviod the unusual sounds on a flight and will help them sleep. Budget airlines like to offer more space seating for a premium, so check if you have to pay extra for bassinet seats.

This is the page on the Air Asia website regarding traveling with an infant. You need to read it and follow the advice:

Talk to your pediatrician about the trip. Consider asking for medications that will both keep your baby's ears unblocked by congestion AND which will help your baby sleep.

If you're worried about disturbing people with the baby, try to get an ile seat near a bathroom or towards the back of front of the plane so you can get up and carry the them around to stop it from crying. Also, it would be good if you got the baby some ear protection for the flight so when their ears pop they won't cry a lot. Bring a toys and little snacks too, there was this little 2 year old I was sitting next to and his mom had brought him a bunch of little things to keep him occupied on a 4 and a half hour flight. He was amazing the whole time and I don't even think he cried. Honestly thoguh, if your kids cries on the plane or does anything, it's fine, people have to deal with it, they are in a public place and if they don't want to hear a kid cry then don't go to public places.

I believe that airline only provides convertible beds for children 2 years and older. I don't believe there's a bassinet option with them.

I would suggest purchasing a seat for your child, and bringing your carseat on board with you. Your baby is much safer that way, and more likely to sleep and be settled during the flight. Even though you will have help with you, it's incredibly hard to manage a baby in your lap for even a relatively short flight. I woudn't want to do it for so long.

My children never had signifcant issues with their ears when flying. I would always make sure they had a bottle, cup, or pacifier to suck on during ascent and descent and that seemed sufficient for them. Everyone is different though. There's no need for headphones or earplugs though.

Make sure you have some things to keep your baby occupied as best you can. Have some new things to hopefully attract his/her attention. Have some snacks and drinks that he/she likes. Bring familiar items like stuffed animals or blankets.

Bring more than what you think you'll need of diapers, wipes, extra clothes, formula (if needed), etc. You want to be prepared in case of delays, accidents, and anything else that's unpredictable.

It's good that you'll have some help on board. Hopefully it all goes smoothly for you!

Yes, talk FIRST to the airline. There's no point in anyone here giving you advice about bassinets if the airline already has its own policy. ASK THEM.

Haha Ask for a bassinet? Really? An airplane only has seats - NO bassinets.
The 1-year old will be sleeping on your lap.

Ask for the seats up front with the panel in front. That's where the bassinet would go if they offer it. And, yes, definitely ask for it. And make sure you board in front of everyone else including first class as with the baby you are a special needs passenger.

Ear protection is iffy. Not clear a 1 yo baby would appreciate ear phones over its ears. And last thing you want is a fussing baby for nine hours. If your baby is OK with the ear phones, they couldn't hurt and the noise of the jets does get loud (and scary) at times. Your call.
