What do you need for id for a child 12 years old to fly American Airlines?

Passport would do it

American Airlines doesn't require ID (in most cases) to board their domestic flights. And TSA does not require government issued photo ID for those under the age of 18 in order to get through Security, either.

Minors do not need ID to fly within the US. TSA does not require that minors (under 18) show ID to pass through security, and the airline does not require ID for any reason.

They *might* ask for it if it was an older child attempting to fly alone and without Unaccompained Minor service, just to verify age and eligiibility to do that, but that's the only instance in which anything would be needed.

If flying internationally, then a passport is required of everyone.

Depends whether they're flying within the US, or internationally.

Generally, the airline's website is a good place to start.

If you are under 18, no ID is required assuming you are flying domestically. If you travel international, then a passport and/or visa will be required.

Nothing for domestic. Passport for international.

Is the child flying alone, or in the company of an adult or adults?
BIG difference in procedure. Ask the airline NOW.
