Is it silly to purchase airline tickets months in advance?
I will be going to France with my parents(I'm fifteen) in April, which is about 5 months from now. I've checked Expedia, and the airline and airport stops of my choice are limited--only about five left. I want my parents to purchase it right now, but I'm not exactly sure if they can ask for days off work. I don't know. I'm scared that other people might book it before my parents can. Should I tell them to book it right now or later? Also, they can only cancel one day after. :/
Airport stops of your choice?
Just who do you think you are? Telling your parents that they need to book a flight now. I'm sure that they are more than competent to decide when to buy tickets.
How about YOU pay for then trip. Then maybe you can start demanding things
It is not unusal to buy tickets months in advance.
It is foolish to buy tickets before you know if it is possible to go on your selected days.
Many many ways to get to France. Many flights. EXPEDIA is not the only place to look for tickets.
TOO BAD if the you need to go to some other stop along the way. TOO BAD if they sell out.
Your PARENTS can decide when and if they want to purchase.
Your parents can decide the itinerary from what is available when they decide to purchase. TOO BAD for you if you do not like their choice.
When you pay for it all you can decide where you go. Freeloaders should just enjoy whatever package of vacation they get.
Is not silly, if the price is low you can purchase
No, but you need to ask your parents. They're paying, not you.
No, it isn't silly, though 5 months ahead is a little further ahead than is usually recommended. Starting to look now is a good idea, just so you can get an idea what a good price is when you see one. But it's downright stupid to book your flight until you know when you can get time off work.
Do you actually believe the websites which say there are only 5 seats left? I never do. I think it's a marketing strategy to make you think you'd better hurry up and buy.
It's your parents who will be booking and paying. Let them decide when is best to do it.
Not silly at all to book well in advance.
It would be silly, though, though, to book a trip that you're not pretty sure can be taken.
Booking in advance can guarantee you the Flight you want how many times have i been told all flights for 9 airlines all booked up for the Dates and Times you want
Tickets will be cheaper in the new year. The airlines are on to people like you and charge extra for that piece of mind of having it booked. But why would you want your parents to book when they don't even know they can yet?
The closer to departure date, the more expensive the tickets tend to be. 3-4 months out tends to be ideal so no, your parents are not being silly to wait a little longer.
How about let the grownups make the important decisions since you really don't know any better
I think it is pretty smart because if you see a ticket price that is within your price range, you buy it early and don't have to deal with the stress of searching for a low-cost ticket. I have actually bought tickets for travel around 11 months before the trip because the price was really cheap. Had I waited, the ticket price would have been much higher.
- Has anyone traveled around the country/world for at least 6 months? \? How was it? Did you get sick of traveling/going to the airport? Do you recommend it? I would be travelling by myself so I'm worried I would be lonely/feel like a loser sometimes.
- Buy a plane ticket way in advance or right before leaving, which is cheaper? I can take a vacation any time, so I'm just looking for the lowest price I can find. In general, is it better to buy a ticket 3-6 months before or a week before you go to get the lowest prices. My thinking is that if you wait until the last minute, an airline with empty seats on a plane will dramatically reduce it's ticket prices to fill those last few seats. Does this ever happen?
- How will the government shutdown effect the prices and readibility of airline tickets? I plan on flying to Phoenix very soon. I plan to buy the ticket in the next few weeks. However, the government shutdown continues to persist and if it continues it will effect the jobs and pay of many TSA and Air flight controllers Will this make it harder to get airline tickets or make prices go way up in the near future?
