When exchanging money at an airport, is there a fee?

From US dollars to Euros

There's a fee alright.

They take a certain percentage depending on how much you exchange.

A large fee which is why they suggest you do not exchange at airports

There's pretty much a fee wherever you change money, at airports that fee is usually higher, if you can change your money at say a travel agency in a town centre, there will still be a feee but probably a better rate than at the airport.

I wouldn't exchange money at airports if i were you, you'd get better exchange rates elsewhere

No, the people working in the exchanges don't need to earn a living.

The airport is the worst place to get money because of fees and lousy exchange rates. I get $100 or so converted here first, then get money out of ATMs when I'm in Europe, Japan, wherever. If you are in a large city, it's easy to find a bank who will get you Euros here. If you live in the boonies like I do, you have to go to AAA, and the rate sucks. I just don't like going to another country without any local currency.

Yes. There's a fee. The fees are generally higher at the airport.
Check with your bank first and get what you think you might need.
Also, even using an atm is lilely to yield a better exchange rate than the places at the airport

Yes, generally there's a % rate for commission at airport bureau de change, better to change at your local bank before leaving, check you have a card to draw cash from ATMs in Europe, visa and MasterCard are widely accepted. Do bare in mind ATMs can charge a fee too, but it's normally fixed, at around 1.5-2.5 euros per withdrawal

In my experience changing currencies at the airport is more expensive, you get a worse exchange rate and higher commission fees than you would with banks, travel agents etc.
