Can an airline change your flight time more than 24 hours?

I've heard that airlines can change your flight time up until departure. Can they change your flight more than a day before or ater your original flight was scheduled as this can be an inconvenience.

Yes

It depends on what you mean by "changing" your flight. If you mean canceling then yes, your flight may be cancelled if there's inclement weather that is severe enough to cancel a flight or if there's some sort of an emergency situation at the airport which is rare but sometimes those happen. Sometimes a flight may be overbooked and the airline will need to find volunteers to give up their seats in exchange for some sort of compensation.

If there are no volunteers, some passengers may be "bumped" or kicked off the flight and put on a different one. Signs your flight is overbooked usually comes up during check-in, which will ask you to volunteer in exchange for compensation or an announcement before boarding occurs. Other than this, there isn't any other way an airline can change your flight in such short notice. Airlines know this would be a severe inconvenience and could possibly cause bad reputation for them.

Remember: Airlines are BUSINESSES just like any other business They don't wanna lose customers and gain a bad name. They want to sell as many tickets as possible and sometimes too many tickets which cause an overbooked flight. However, airlines are improving their ticketing systems and overbooking is becoming more of a rarity nowadays.

They sure can and you agreed to it

Yes, they can… It's generally in the fine print when you agree to the terms.

Yes. Read the T&Cs of your ticket.

They can change it whenever, however most decent airlines will offer a refund anyway or a decent compensation if it's at the last minute, like a few hours, and the delay causes a huge inconvenience to most passengers of the flight

YES they can change it. If you do not like it they will give you a refund.

Seriously if there's some major storm do you really expect them to take off? Just because it is YOUR preferred time to travel?

Generally airlines like to keep with their schedule as it always has a knock on effect if they have delays or cancellations. Moving flight departures happens when aircraft are not available, ie when an aircraft had a technical issue or severe weather or air traffic control have a rerouted flights that then requires slots to move. Compensation could be limited if sufficient warning is given, more than 24 hours, etc.
