Can I sleep at the San Francisco airport after I returned my rent a car there if I'm not taking a plane?

My dead line to drop off the car was at 7 pm. But I got here too late to take the train that I wanted to. I'm too exhausted to go anywhere affter driving 600 miles here.

Additional info to myquestion: Any suggestions that I do? I plan on leaving here around 6 am.

Sure. Find a corner and go to sleep. Lots of people have stayed over night sleeping in a chair to avoid having to leave the terminal and still catch that early morning flight. Years ago, my husband worked for a large corporation that always had dozens of construction projects ongoing. Of course there was an inspection department, but the VP of Engineering also had his personal inspector. This inspector's job was to make his on evaluation of the situation and report back by phone everyday. He was single, traveled constantly, lived out of motel rooms, owned nothing, lived off of his expense account, banked all of his paycheck. For about 15 years. So, spending one night at the airport doesn't seem too difficult compared to that guy.

Youth hostels are budget sleeping for travelers (kind of like backpackers) and HI/AYH ones are a big, well thought of network. You can stay at one in san francisco for $28-30 here is a link http://www.sfhostels.org/ You can meet cool people there as well. You share the room though.

Why stay at the airport? Just go on to your final location, there must be other option than just the train? Greyhound buses run through the night in ca.

If you got there by 7 pm hat was in plenty of time to take BART or CalTrain.
