How long does it take to be a major airline pilot?

I'm currently getting my private license right now and i'm in high school.

Hi so it has a lot more to do with your education besides flying skills.

Tt

Couple of decades. Military flight experience, esp on multi-engine large jets, very helpful in shortening the time.

Ground School will help you understand the regulations. After the private, you need instrument, then either multi engine or commercial, then 1500 hours working toward an ATP. Unless you have lots of cash for all the hours it will require a job to help pay the bills while you work on those. You have to be 21 for an ATP so you have a while even to get to that age. Once you have an ATP (hopefully you can get some turbine time while working on that!) You can then get an entry level while you work toward a major airline. Most majors want to see college degree (in the US) for applicants. That degree can be in anything you like. Get one in something you can use should you loose the ability to fly (due to health etc) Business, IT, education, etc. Are some good options. You have a road ahead.

To get more info visit AOPA Learn to Fly. It is a good site for any student to find lots of valuable information. By the time you are 30 you should be able to be in a major somewhere. https://www.aopa.org/training-and-safety/learn-to-fly
