17 year old travelling alone from Australia to Japan?
Hope someone with relevant knowledge or experience pertaining to my question is able to answer as soon as possible. Thank you.
Leaving Thursday 08 November 2018, was supposed to be a nice holiday with my mum however spontaneous work commitments means she is unable to come along. We don't want to waste the money and tickets so I suggested I go alone. In Japan, we would've been staying with my cousin, which is the same case if I'm able to travel by myself. I'm responsible and know I can fly and travel by myself, but my question is more about entering and leaving Japan. Is there any special documents I need to have? I have connecting flights from my hometown to Brisbane, to Singapore then on to Haneda. Leaving from Narita on the way home but pretty much the same route reversed. Do I need a notarised parental consent letter at all? Any unaccompanied minor documents or such? Where can I find official documents? I read that my cousin would have to meet me at the airport too? Hoping for some solid advice.
You could check with the airline you are flying with, but at 17, you should be fine.
All airlines allow passengers age 17 to fly unaccompanied.
Having a notarized letter from your parents saying they authorize the trip and naming the adult in Japan who will be responsible for you during your visit would be a good idea.
Flying will be OK, getting past Japanese immigration is a different issue. I suggest you have a letter from your parents, with contact info, describing where you will be staying and who will take parental responsibility for you while in Japan.
The flying part is the easy part of this.
CHILDREN do not get to wander across or in and out of countries at THEIR will.
You will need a letter from your parents.
You will need a responsible Adult to greet you.
Customs/Immigration can decide to question this Adult before they allow you to pass.
AIRLINE STAFF are not any countries Immigration Passport control.

WARNING Japan Airport officials do not have to let you pass if they suspect something is not in order. You are just sent back where you came from.
Ask the airline, to be sure, but in general, go with what @Rona says. She really knows her stuff.

- Can a 13 year old travel over seas without The accompanied minor form, or would the airports stop me? I'm 13, flying to albania. I want to use Norwegian airlines they say that 12-15 year olds don't need the unapomponied minor form but I don't want to end up stuck anywhere. Does anyone know if the airports would stop me from boarding the flights?
