Can I get money back from Southwest Airlines?

I recently got into a very uncomfortable situation. Last Friday, My 23 year old son and his friends were celebrating his birthday. They got so drunk that for some reason they ended up at the airport, bought the first available tickets to California and flew there. When they sobered up, they realized what they had done, and had to come back. My son used my credit card to buy his ticket which I did not know about. I would very much like to know if I can get my money back, since my son was not in his right mind when he committed such an irresponsible act.

No. There's no remedy for an irresponsible parent.

EPIC FAIL at trolling and / or child rearing.

A drunk adult man purchased an airline ticket with a credit card that wasn't in his own name? How the heck did the airline allow that? It's hard to believe. When I fly I have to show my ID over and over and over again.

Your son owes you for the ticket. If you want to commit him for being out of his mind and stealing from you… You might have a case!

From the airline? No, they sell tickets to whomever buys them, not their job to be policemen. (although its a sketchy story in that you need to show ID), collect from your son.

Can't see how it was possible at the airport. It could be done online, next day tickets probably. Your problem is you have to charge your son with credit card fraud, and then the airline would have to refund it as your son gets arrested on a felony charge. I assume it is not worth it to you.

You son was a passenger on the plane, of course they will not give your money back. You should take that card away from him since he used it so irresponsibly.

Not from the airline. You'll have to get your son to reimburse you for the cost.

You have two chances, no chance and no chance at all.

No, definitely not. Southwest did nothing wrong, so there's no reason for them to refund your money. They sold a ticket for a flight, and that ticket was presumably used for that flight. Consider it a lesson learned on your part - don't give your kids your credit cards.

No. If you knew he had your credit card and did not report it stolen, southwest and the credit company are not liable

You aren't getting anything from Southwest directly.
You could claim it as a fraudulent charge with the credit card company, but that is going to go one of two ways. One, they laugh at you because you gave your kid your card, or worse, an additional card on the account in his name. Or two, your kid ends up with a felony charge and goes to jail, but you get your money back.
Or, you could be a parent and handle it that way and get your money back from the person actually responsible for this--YOUR kid.
