They wouldn't be much use if they couldn't identify whether a passport is valid or not.
If you are checking in for an international flight, yes. If not, why would it matter?
The check-in kiosk do perform a lookup of your passport against a database; if your passport is flagged or if there are any irregularities then self-service check-in won't work and you'd have to see an agent anyways.
If you do happen to get by the self-service check-in, then you still have to deal with the Customs and Immigration agents either at your departing airport or when you arrive, and if your passport isn't legit that'll probably be the end of your trip.
Of course.
Sure do
Self check in facilities only work with passports that include a microchip. They can tell in an instant if a passport is cancelled because cancellation is recorded on the chip.
- Why don't airports use steam catapults and transverse arrestor cables, like they do on aircraft carriers, for extra short take-off & landing? 1. Airports could be pretty tiny with runways no longer than a football field 2. Takeoff and landing (takeoff especially) would be *much* more exciting 3. Airlines could charge people more money because the experience would be much more fun 4. It would save a lot of fuel with much less taxiing around the airfield, and much less fuel used during the takeoff phase
- I cancelled a flight on expedia and was refunded in airline credit. I had purchased insurance on the ticket and didn't realize I had to File a claim to be refunded. I'm **** out of luck because I already ordered my other tickets and American Airlines is charging a $200 fee on the airline credit, so even if I eventually use the credit in the next 12 months, I'm still out $200.
- My passport photo is so ugly but I just got it? My passport that I renewed just came in the mail, and the photo is so ugly. I waited four weeks for it and am going on vacation next week. I'm so mad at myself. My face looks so big and it's just plain ugly. I'm embarrassed when I go to the airport. People might laugh when they see my photo. It's really really ugly. What do I do?
- Plane ticket has first, middle and last name but my passport only has first and last name? I'm flying Scandinavian Airlines and my plane ticket has my first, middle, and last name but my passport only has my first and last name. Does anyone have any experience with this or think it will be an issue? I called the travel agency and they told me they could not do anything to correct the middle name. I was also thinking about bringing another form of ID like a birth certificate or social security card to be safe.
