American Airlines ticket question?

I purchased plane tickets through American Airlines. I'm trying to figure out if basic economy is the same as economy? It says that basic economy won't let you have a carryon and you can't pick your seats? But my ticket says economy and it let me pick my seats? So does that mean I will get a carryon?

Probably, but we're not in any position to offer assurances.

You should call AA and ask them. The customer service rep will KNOW the answer.

We can only guess.

You need to call AA and talk to a human to confirm the details of your fare.

Depends on when you purchased your tickets and what route you are flying - Basic Economy recently went into effect last week in only 10 markets so far…

No basic economy is not the same thing as economy. You will get assigned your seat at check in, which will always be whatever seat is left over after the general economy customers pick their seats, your cary on is restricted to one small item under the seat you may not use the overhead, and you have to pay extra to check a bag. Basic economy sucks, all in all the ONLY reason that american, delta, and united even offer it is to show you that you get what you pay for, and to show people why its not worth the savings to fly spirit.
