What are the chances this pilot got fired?

I was flying from Frankfurt to Dublin today and despite a landing attempt the pilot diverted to Belfast in Northern Ireland and forced us all to take a 2.5 hour bus ride down from Belfast to Dublin airport… The pilot was in contact with the airline HQs during this ordeal and had to order us the buses.

I looked at Dublin's airports arrivals and other planes had safety landed during our time period.

What are the chances the pilot will be disciplined or fired because of this? I hope the company at least gave the pilot some talking to for wasting our time.

Added (1). It was due to windy condition at dublin apparently

The company will certainly be looking into it, if only because it cost them a lot extra. Could it be that the wind was outside that aircraft's limits, but not that of others? I don't know, I wasn't there.

Zero. Adverse winds are a common reason for diverting. The pilot could (probably would) have been in trouble if he had committed to landing in unsafe conditions.

that we can't take time to perform our work safely." -- Bell System Safety Creed

That other pilots were willing to risk lives it does not mean your pilot was willing to risk your life.
Personally, I prefer the pilot to take LESS risks when I go flying.

There are 0 chances

Near zero. If he had crashed the plane…

There's getting to be way too many infantile, and boring trolls on here.

Zero. The pilots were very experienced, so they knew it was too risky to land.

Why did the other planes land, then? Probably because the wind conditions were different when they arrived at the airport than when your plane arrived.

Absolutely zero chance. The pilot has ultimate responsibility for his/her life and also the lives of everybody else on the aircraft.
If the pilot declares the landing conditions unsafe at the time of landing, no company can dispute this.
Just be thankful you are able to write this question.

None.

The pilot diverted because he felt it was the safest thing to do, and apparently got the approval to do so from the airline as they were the one paying for the bus ride.

An airline's responsibility it to get the passengers safely back on the ground, *preferably* at the intended destination. 'Losing' your time is irrelevant when you consider that there are numerous instances of people being stuck in a plane for hours waiting for the authorization to takeoff because of some issue at the destination airport.

But but but, you may say, what about the other flights?
They were OTHER flights, most likely different aircraft type, differently loaded, with different requirements in term of landing distance in adverse conditions. Belfast's main runway is 150 m longer than Dublin's, and has a different orientation.

For the record the airline company also lost, because they had a plane that was not in the right airport at the right time for the next flight out, the passengers waiting to take that flight out were a heck of a lot more inconvenienced than you were.

There are a few instances where a pilot attempted to land where it was not safe to do so, they share the fate of their passengers being now buried in cemeteries.

Basically, one can summarize your position as that of a complete jerk.
Next time, walk.

Take it up with MoL if you've got a gripe. There could be many reasons for the divert. The plane could have been getting close to fuel limits, the crew could have been approaching their operating hours.

In worse weather the flight would have been cancelled. Inconveniencing passengers is low down on the list of reasons for sacking pilots - excluding behaviour, drugs and alcohol. So landing safely and getting passengers to their destination… Mission accomplished.

  • My passport photo is so ugly but I just got it? My passport that I renewed just came in the mail, and the photo is so ugly. I waited four weeks for it and am going on vacation next week. I'm so mad at myself. My face looks so big and it's just plain ugly. I'm embarrassed when I go to the airport. People might laugh when they see my photo. It's really really ugly. What do I do?
  • What is the best path to becoming a commercial airline pilot? I have heard going into the Navy or Naval Officer Academy is a great way, but i'm still not sure.
  • My flight got moved to the next morning after I waited in the airport for 7 hours. Do I have a chance at a successful complaint? It was pouring outside, and the flight got delayed heavily. When it finally got there 5 hours later, the pilots said they were done for the day, and they moved the flight to early the next day. Of course, I chose to get the full refund and bail on the flight. Should I complain? (The airline is United)
  • How do I become a commercial pilot? I have some questions in this regard: 1. Can I get a CPL by completing 250 hours on any aircraft such as the cessna 172 or a particular aircraft is required? 2. After getting my CPL can I join an airline as a FO before getting an ATPL? 3. What kind of course will I require to convert from the cessna 172 to an airliner such as the 737? And what is the average fees for such a course? 4. What else will I require after getting my CPL to fly as a FO for an airline?
