I booked connecting flights with multiple airlines for a trip from Bulgaria to Philippines. I will arrive in Istanbul. Do I need a visa?
I happened to have booked multiple airlines for my flight from Sofia (Bulgaria) to Manila (Philippines.) I'm first set to board a Turkish Airline flight from Sofia to Istanbul; then board a connecting flight with Emirates from Istanbul to Dubai, then Dubai to Manila.
Do I have to secure a visa for this situation? My layover is just around 4 hours, and I don't have plans of leaving the airport. From Terminal 2, I have to go to Terminal 1 to board my next flight.
Can I just check in on my next flight through the transit area/desk? Do I still have to pass through immigration? With or without checked in bags?
Hope someone can help me with some relevant information.
Airports are considered neutral ground - as long as you do not LEAVE them, you do not need a visa. Thousands of flyers a day do what you are doing.
Neither of those countries requires a transit visa for passengers who remain in the airport and within the transit area.
Did you book these flights as one itinerary, or did you make multiple bookings? That is not clear from your post. If these are separate bookings, then any checked luggage will not be sent through to your final destination and you would have to retrieve them at each stop and take them through customs, which would also involve going through immigration first. In those cases, you might need a visa (depending on your citizenship). If this was one itinerary, then your bags should be transferred at each stop and you don't need to worry about retrieving them.
You should be able to check in for your flights online, rather than needing to do so at the airports. I don't believe they offer that type of support in the immigration/customs area though.
You do not need a visa for Turkey as
you are in transit for a connecting flight
luggage goes to final destination however
just go to Emirates check in counter and get
the boarding pass for the flight to Dubai
you will then go through Immigration and
carry on cabin baggage scan
at Dubai no visa required just wait for your Emirates
connecting flight, get the boarding card go through
Immigration and cabin carry on baggage scan
- Do I need a visa when traveling to Beijing? I have an 11 hour layover in Beijing while traveling to southeast Asia and I was wondering if I needed a visa in order to just leave the airport for a few hours to get some food/walk around a bit. Any info would be helpful!
- Do I need a visa to connect in Shenzen, China? I'm traveling to Thailand in October from Chicago. On the way back to Chicago I'm flying from Bangkok to Chicago with a 4 hour stop to connect in Shenzen, China. All the information online seems to be all over the place on whether I need a visa to connect for my flight in Shenzen. Some say yes, some say no, some say a VOA and some say this particular airport has rules different from other airports in China.
- Is 1 hour and 15 minutes too short for an international connection in Istanbul (IST)? I'm flying from Atlanta to Venice with a stop in Istanbul (IST). The connection is only an hour and fifteen minutes long. From what I have heard, this should be okay since it is the same airline and all international, but I was wondering if anyone had actual experience at this airport or know the security process at IST for international connections. Will I have to go through customs and security again?
- First time booking through trip.com and my flights are with Scoot and Cebu Pacific Airlines. I'm unsure where I can checkin and put add ons? Is there an option to check in and add some add ons through trip.com or directly with Scoot and Ceb Pac? However, I tried managing my bookings separately on their respective websites but they both say they can't find my booking or whatever… My flight is still in a month but I d like to worry about it now than when it's nearer and I doubt they won't appear there because I've had flights before that I was able to add to my manage bookings months ahead.
