Do I need a visa when traveling to Beijing?

I have an 11 hour layover in Beijing while traveling to southeast Asia and I was wondering if I needed a visa in order to just leave the airport for a few hours to get some food/walk around a bit. Any info would be helpful!

Depends on your nationality as China has a72 hour visa waiver for certain nationalities on transit

The airport is not near anything where you can walk around. And the traffic is terrible- I wouldn't risk leaving the airport.

Not realistically enough time to leave the Airport for anything worthwhile.

Most countries can leave for 2 days without a visa. But I agree with the others that there's not enough time really. At least do not attempt to go downtown. Maybe best you can do is the art district in JiangTaiXiang. Take a taxi there and back. You'll get lost on public transit. Subway is slow.

  • Traveling to a foreign country alone? In a few weeks, I'll be traveling to a foreign country by myself. I'm from the US and I've never traveled by myself before but, I've traveled with my family on numerous occasions but never by myself. I was just wondering, I forget how you check in to an airport, so what's the process of doing that? I'm just having a mental block, probably because I'm nervous and excited. Also, any other tips for going through an airport, flying, or going through customs?
  • Do I need a visa to connect in Shenzen, China? I'm traveling to Thailand in October from Chicago. On the way back to Chicago I'm flying from Bangkok to Chicago with a 4 hour stop to connect in Shenzen, China. All the information online seems to be all over the place on whether I need a visa to connect for my flight in Shenzen. Some say yes, some say no, some say a VOA and some say this particular airport has rules different from other airports in China.
