Will I be able to get my Aviation 1st Class Medical with ADHD History?

Disclaimer. I'm years away from needing a 1st class but I'm trying to get ahead of this before I spend anymore money.

I used to take Vyvanse for concentration problems in school. I took it for about 3-4 years but have been off the medication for about 2-3 years now.

I'm not sure if I have ever been formally diagnosed with ADHD/ADD but I definitely have a history of taking the medications.

Will they grant me a medical if I have been off the medication for years?

Thanks

Added (1). I currently hold a 3rd class Medical and am approaching my instrument ground license. The AME for the 3rd class asked me if I was still taking Vyvanse and I said no. He never asked me further about the medication or ADHD/ADD and I was issued a license without any restrictions.

Hold you head up and look at your screen.
On that medical examination I have determined that NO ONE can tell you.
Suggest you see a REAL doctor and have the appropriate flight medical.
Every ADHD person does not have exactly the same impairments in regards to flying a plane.

You DO NOT understand EVERY pilot gets a medical assessment. The Doctor at that time will determine what your CURRENT medical condition is.
They really do not care much about what the situation was ten or twenty years ago.
No guarantees can be given but if you have not needed medication for YEARS do you think maybe that the condition is no longer much of an issue for you?

Going back onto the medication can result in the suspension of your license immediately.

If your ultimate goal is to become a commercial pilot, you should go for that first class medical soon, just to be certain that you CAN qualify. It would be kind of a bummer if you spent a bunch of money on flying lessons and THEN be denied the medical you need to go to work.

When the heck did the FAA start issuing "instrument ground license"? Something new or something some school dreamed up to take your money! Or is that an instrument ground instructor certificate? They are different things.

As others have said, go take the First Class Medical, it costs a little but you will know for sure you will pass. An AME is the only one to properly answer your question. The one that gave you the third class probably knows exactly the situation and didn't see it as an issue.

  • Will I be able to bring nicotine gum through security at the airport? I'm 17 and I constantly am having nicotine. I going on a trip to Seattle and i was wondering if i can get through security with nicotine gum. I'm traveling with my sister in law and i don't want her to know i use nicotine. I'm planning on just putting the nicotine gum into a normal gum container so it doesn't look suspicious. Will tsa question this or will i get in trouble with it?
  • Am I entitled to a refund for a medical emergency? I purchased tickets from Condor airlines (via CheapOair) last spring for a trip to Italy. The day before our departure date, I was taken to the emergency room with a bleeding ulcer (a condition I had never experienced before). While I was in intensive care unit, my wife called Condor to cancel our plane reservations for the next day. Condor then charged us a $400 cancellation fee. When a refund never arrived, I contacted them and I was told we would receive no refund.
  • Aviation university? Or just a regular university and then do aviation on the side? I'm currently 15 and going through ground school in january. I want to one day be a major airline pilot. Which is the faster/better route to take?
  • What are some of the most rewarding aviation careers? I want to study to be a commercial airline pilot, i'm currently obtaining my private pilot license right now. I'm not sure if I will enjoy it or not. I want to fly either helio or planes, but anything will help!
