Abbreviated name on airline ticket?

Abbreviated name on airline ticket? - 1

Added (1). I recently bought tickets through travel republic to bali. I put my mates name as 'alex' instead of 'alexander' which is on his passport. I asked them to change the name not long after booking and they told me the airlines refused. I'm flying with british airways and Qatar airways. The travel agents said I would have to pay off the current bookings, cancel it and rebook. I would get a refund on taxes but will still cos an extra £400-£500. Would my mate still be able to fly under that name?

The name must match your i/d exactly.

I have meticulously entered our names, etc. - only to have the AIRLINES print out incorrect info. Let's say our names are Suzanne and Robert. I was persistently listed as MISTER Suzanne - and he was MISTER Robert. How inclusive of them… Except we're an old-school hetero couple.

GOOD FOR YOU
The agent needing to verify Identification may not care. SOME DO.

I asked them to change the name not long after booking and they told me the airlines refused.
THEY CAN some will change it and you pay.

I'm flying with british airways and Qatar airways. SO WHAT
Passport Control may want to see your ticket. They are not the Airline. The Agent you deal with might accept the difference or they may not.
Airport security IS NOT THE AIRLINE
The security people want to see a name that MATCHES. They are not the Airline. Your NAME is YOUR Name Your Name on one item is expected to match YOUR NAME on the next item.
The Agent that deals with your friend might not care it is not an exact match. SOME DO.

Many bad people try to get past with documents that are not exactly the same as each other.
They DO NOT have to let your friend pass. THEY MIGHT.
It is up to you to make your security check easy and fast or place obstacles in the way.

YOU decided to place on obstacle to a fast pass. YOU now pay a price in advance to avoid a price later on a delay while someone checks things out might mean a missed connection.

Next time you will be more careful when booking for others and use the name as in their Identification.

In most cases this will not be a problem. Airlines only care about ID to stop people transferring tickets. An abbreviation still makes it clear whose ticket it is. Airport security, border guards, etc. Just care that the passport is legit and belongs to a bearer who has a valid ticket to travel.

British Airways and Qatar Airways

Let's state our names are Suzanne and Robert. I was constantly noted as MISTER Suzanne - and he was MISTER Robert.

Bad

Hmm.

  • First and Middle name joined on plane ticket online? I'm a first time flyer. Someone purchased a plane ticket from Delta online, he gave me the confirmation code to log in as a guest and I did with my first and last name. I checked on the flight details that my first and middle name are joined together. Will that be a issue when I get to the airport to show my ID?
  • SEQUENCE OF NAME ON AIRLINE TICKET My name is John Geo Smith. My passport Surname Smith My passport Given Name is John Geo My AIRLINE TICKET name is John Geo Smith Is this correct? Why do some people say last name is suppose to be first then first then middle? Such as Smith John Geo. @Aster Rhoids, just confirmed with airlines… You're wrong.
  • Trying to get a plane ticket with Southwest Airlines. When trying to open an account it takes my name ok, but when it comes to the address,? It keeps telling me to enter a valid address. I did give them my correct address! I have tried Chrome, Firefox, and Bing all with the same results. I have tried this many times over two days with the same results. What gives?
  • Plane ticket has first, middle and last name but my passport only has first and last name? I'm flying Scandinavian Airlines and my plane ticket has my first, middle, and last name but my passport only has my first and last name. Does anyone have any experience with this or think it will be an issue? I called the travel agency and they told me they could not do anything to correct the middle name. I was also thinking about bringing another form of ID like a birth certificate or social security card to be safe.
