American Airlines ticket question?

I purchased plane tickets through American Airlines. I'm trying to figure out if basic economy is the same as economy? It says that basic economy won't let you have a carryon and you can't pick your seats? But my ticket says economy and it let me pick my seats? So does that mean I will get a carryon?

I saw a Marine escorting the remains of another Marine at the airport and I just lost it. Has anyone ever seen something like this?

So I was going to San Francisco 3 days ago. As soon as the plane landed the pilot just put the speaker on and said something like " This is the pilot speaking. Welcome to San Francisco. Please remain seated. During this flight I've had the honor of carrying the remains of a fallen Marine. I'm going to inconvenience you
for a few moments while the escort disembarks the plane. As you go about your day please keep the family in your thoughts". As we all stepped out of the plane I saw this Marine saluting the casket who was coming out of the plane. It was so moving I can't even describe it. A few minutes before the pilot spoke I was actually laughing with a buddy thinking about partying in San francisco. Then this happened. As the Marine saluted the casket the was not a dry eye there. Everyone who had schedules just stopped. A man took his hat off. A Tsa worker also saluted the casket. It was just one brief moment but it brought tears to my eyes. Have you ever witnessed something like this? How would you feel? Regardless of politics I guess it's just human compassion. That Marine gave his life for you, me, and the rest of this country.

Fat person on a plane?

I don't remember when or where i heard this story, but there was this fat guy on a commercial plane. He was on the seat closest to the middle aisle and he was sticking out onto the aisle. The pilot saw this as a hazard since he was in the way of walking, so they decided to move the man who was sitting next to him onto another seat so that the fat guy could use 2 seats to be comfortable. The flight airline decided to not charge him for an extra seat, and this is understandable since he already paid the ticket, but here's my question; if you take 2 seats, should you be charged for both or just be charged per person?
